Peter T, thank you for the fine comments. Two things....I really wish people could sit down and discuss these things with deep sincerity and honesty. But I fear that is almost impossible because to do so would entail people to avoid value-based judgments upon the thoughts and observations of others. For example, take the old cop show NYPD Blue and the Sipowicz character portrayed by Dennis Franz. In some ways the writers of that show were brilliant in the development of that character because at first glance he was thought to be a raging racist, but the deeper they got into his persona one realized he was so much more complex than that, but that it took time to realize the complexity. The other item is, I have always been surprised at how people that look alike, seem to be alike or come from the same backgrounds, seem to think everyone else thinks as they do. For example, when going back to the area I am from for funerals, visitations or other social gatherings, it was not uncommon for someone to whisper to me, "Hey, you still have to deal with those 'blanks'?" (On an odd note, if I had declared to them, "That's a pretty racist thing to say," their response probably would have been something like, "You goddamned right!!").
