So, I recently watched Falling Down, the film starring Michael Douglas as an
unemployed defense contractor that finally snaps and goes on a crime spree.
I had seen this film in a theater years ago and for whatever reason did
not
think too much of it. Seeing it now though it is a perfect film for our
times. It features a character played by Michael Douglas that is the
embodiment of the kind of person that would in 2016 vote for Donald
Trump...or just go on a shooting spree with his assault rifle.
The film is now 25 years old and I have to say I do think people should
visit or revisit at this stage. It's not the sort of brilliant satire that
Network is but it captures a very American character that...well...probably
would be seen as a hero to a lot of Trump rally attendees.
He is white, racist (not a Nazi though as he meets one in the picture),
a
family man, violent, harms a bunch of people of color that we see through
his eyes as being "intruders" that make our country worse, and at the end of
the film he asks with great surprise "I'm the bad guy?" when confronted by
Robert Duvall's cop.
This is important because you have to understand that a typical Trump
supporter does not see him or herself as a bad guy. Of course most of them
have not gone on a crime spree as Douglas does in the film but they do see
supporting an absolutely vile creature like Trump and all the horrible
things he does and espouses as "justified" because like the Douglas
character in the film they feel they just can't get a fair shake anywhere in
the world. So, in their fantasy they want revenge. To make somebody pay.
Of course, they want to hang on to their assault rifles just in case
they do
need to go on a killing spree to...well...um...kill the "deep state" people
coming for their idiotic and traitorous president they love so much? Or you
know stop the hordes of brown people, gay frogs, or fight the zombie
apocalypse that are all likely to invade their neighborhood at some point.
Sadly, the people they want to trample are typically far worse off than
they
are.
It would obviously be illegal for Trump to hire a private army to rape
other
countries...he has the largest most powerful military force in the world at
his disposal after all and so would just use them. However, he certainly
would look the other way if a guy like Prince put his private army to work
for some giant corporate interest. This should also be illegal as companies
should not be permitted to hire a military force (I know people will say we
already hire out the US military to Big Energy) but there are ways around
that and Prince moved his company out of the United States so he would not
have to be bothered by pain in the ass stuff like US laws.
You have to ask too, who would Trump go to war with? I mean the thing
you
have to understand about Trump is the guy loves rich people and he really
loves rich dictators. So, he can't attack North Korea now he is love with
Kim. He loves Putin and Russian money. He loves the Chinese and their money.
The Russians are in Syria so he will leave that to his pal Vlad. He and
his
family really, really love the Saudi royals because they are as fucked up
and crazy as the Trump family...and they have a shitload of cash.
Yes, there is Iran. Trump has nobody he loves there and the place is
full of
brown people to kill. There is also Afghanistan and that place is loaded
with poor brown people to slaughter and lots of natural resources everybody
wants to take. Trump still needs permission from Vlad to do anything though
and Vlad will tell Trump how much of a cut he gets.
Honesty, if Trump could choose who to bomb it would probably be Canada
or
Germany or even a place like Iceland. I mean the people he wants to kill are
either brown or they are people that say bad things about him. Or he would
just bomb the side of the House and Senate where the Democrats sit. Or he
would bomb Bob Mueller's office.
I mean Trump wants to go to war with somebody, this is absolutely
true...it
just has to be a place that has no rich people that might invest in Trump
family businesses and that all his rich pals tell him it is OK to bomb.
Now, to be fair, Trump almost got to start one war since he has been in
office and no it was not North Korea. Apparently though, Rex Tillerson of
all people shut it down.
What happened was Jared Kushner had nearly made a deal with some Qataris
to
finance his dump 666 Fifth Avenue but they pulled out...obviously pissing
him off. At the same time the Saudis had let Kushner and Trump know they
would like to attack Qatar and steal all their wealth. Somehow a deal seemed
to be quickly made that Trump would rapidly essentially declare Qatar our
enemy and immediately institute an economic blockade of Qatar. This would
essentially clear the way for the Saudis to attack Qatar.
Trump was all in on this salivating at the idea he could kill some
Qataris
and punish them for backing out on Jared, not to mention steal their wealth
and resources through the Saudis. Then Rex Tillerson stepped in and said
"Hey, you ignorant boob, Qatar is our ally and we have a huge military
base there (which Jared should have been aware of since
Trump put Jared in charge of the Middle East) what the fuck are you idiots
doing?"
This led to Trump and Kushner having to back down as suddenly as they
put
their surprise blockade in place (plus they had no explanation for their
sudden economic blockade anyway) so their greedy little war was averted. It
also led to Tillerson losing his job.
Of course this whole thing was barely even noticed by the general public
so
most people have no idea that Trump and Kushner nearly started a war in the
Middle East over financing for a Trump family property.
Is that messed up? You bet but you know Trump supporters here are too
busy
buying guns and getting prepared in case they need to become Michael Douglas
in Falling Down to pay attention to that sort of shit.
