In preparation of getting rid of DishTV, I joined Netflix and my goodness....what a terrible mistake!! But in a good way....I also bought a Roku. First Netflix....I've lucked onto some really good shows/movies, many that I had not heard of before. One has been The Fundamentals of Caregiving with Paul Rudd. A very touching movie about a caregiver and wheelchair-bound muscular dystrophy patient. Then, the movie Outside In with Edie Falco. She plays a teacher that worked to get a man out of prison. Small Town Crimes with John Hawkes. Man, is he one of our best-understated character actors Last night I watched one of the most unsettling movies I've seen in a long time. It was called Wetlands with Carla Juri. I almost turned it off several times but had to stick with it (no pun intended) to see where it ended up. What a daring performance by Carla Juri. You know a film is going to be compelling when a mother tells her young child to jump off of a roof and into her arms and then steps aside to teach the child not to trust anyone in life. On TV shows, Happy Valley about policing across the pond with the main character being a middle-aged woman and one that is not filled with cliches. Then, Last Tango In Halifax about the courting of an elderly couple and their troubled families. Other's have included a surprising portrayal by Gillian Anderson in The Fall, a compelling story in River and so many others. Oh, and take a look at Longshot. A very powerful documentary that is only forty minutes long and socks you in the gut.
