Al was for sure camp. My wife said effeminate. But he was having a really
great time entertaining - telling stories about songs and what he was doing
when they were written and going back and forth with the audience. The man
has been around and in some key moments in pop/rock/folk music. He was at
Jimi Hendrix's first three London shows (he said he sold his electric
guitar after seeing him). He played the first Glastonbury. Shared a flat
with Paul Simon during Paul's London pre-stardom days. As for the voice -
he did admit to not being able to hit some of the higher notes of his youth
- but he just changed the pitch of the lyric to compensate. And I'm surprised to hear you treat yourself to some sweet innocence -
unless it was brewed from hops and barley.
