Dan I know you are a fan of Edie and I think she is coming out with a new album soon. Its pretty well confirmed that Charlie Sexton is playing on it. I'll keep tabs up here with New Bohemians Drummer John Bush (who plays on Sixth street down here frequently) to see if they re-form for any dates

* EDIE BRICKELL, JOSH ROUSE, ERIN McKEOWN, Housing Works Used Books Cafe, 126 Crosby Street, below Houston Street, SoHo (212) 334-3324. A rare appearance by Edie Brickell, who had the winsome 1989 hit "What I Am," tops this bill of three songwriters who ease between introspection and the rolling vamps of jam bands. I had the privelage of attending this show. The venue was a bookstore and Cafe that was charming. There were about 100 people give or take a few. Edie told the audience that her friends run the place and asked her to perform. The show was a benefit for Housing Works, an orginazation that raises money for HIV/AIDS victims.
Edie played for about an hour, just herself, her guitar and that giant grin that I haven't seen for so long. Apparently Charlie Sexton was to accompany her, but he was in New Orleans for a gig. She was noticeably nervous as her set began, she told us so. As the evening progressed she became more and comfortable and was obviously enjoying herself.
Her voice sounded terrific, as pure and poetic as always. She played what I assume was every song from her new album. About ten or so. Each song was distinct from the next, but yet each had a certain familiarity. Like an old friend you haven't seen in years, but it seems like just yesterday when you were together.
After a rousing ovation, she returned for an encore. She became choked up as she explained that the next song was a friends song who had passed away. She then did a rousing rendition of "Good Times" (Barry White). Followed by "Lost in the Moment"
By the end of the night, it was obvious to all that Edie had a ball, hopefully that will mean there is more live performances to come.
