Why do they broadcast so many live concerts at decibels that are unnecessarily loud and in such a manner that the sound is actually distorted?

And I don't mean where it is loud enough to reach the farthest point in the venue, but just plain over the edge too loud?

For example, we took our girls to see this collection of artists and no matter where you stood in the venue, it was just too loud.

Are sound engineers this bad at their job, or what?

The odd thing is you can go through Youtube and find plenty of footage of live shows where the quality of sound is excellent.

But every concert I've been to in my life, except for Springsteen's acoustic tour in theaters and a Don Williams small theater concert, the sound has been way beyond too loud.
