At times, I too have been conflicted, EEE, but I ultimately concluded that if we have the death
penalty, some innocent people will be put to death. I am absolutely certain of this and that
is intolerable. We know that eyewitness accounts are often wrong. We know that some in law
enforcement are incompetent and corrupt. I would rather pay my share of what is
undoubtedly an enormous and growing tax bill, in order to incarcerate convicted murderers.
I have no problem with eliminating parole for those convicted of first degree murder. A life
sentence should mean for life.
Not to get off-topic, but our prison costs would dramatically decline if we ceased
imprisoning people for distributing and possessing marijuana. And I imagine you, and
everyone else on the board, would agree.Peter T.
