We'll find out in six months or so. The time frame seems reasonable to me (perhaps even a bit
aggressive) to have a Constitutional referendum and then a new election. But there is precedent for
the military playing a role like that. Ecuador after the mental implosion of Bucaram in the late 1990's
was an example. The military took a transitional role and then receded once an election was
completed. Likewise, the military quelled the recent coup attempt against Correa and restored the
government. It's a bad government, but they did uphold the democratic result.
