I understand what you are saying, Ross, and I don't expect that a lot of people will understand something like the "crisis of credit" in this country and the how and why of it but I also don't think it is beyond them to understand it. I think if the focus was on repeatedly explaining situations like this, rather than spinning it to get the upper hand in the next election cycle, people would grasp it.

Sure, there are a lot of sources and the "bias" is easy to spot, in fact in a way that is the whole idea, that we are shown the bias but not the problem. We can grasp "bias" quickly and it allows us to make a snap judgment on the source and the people we think would believe that source..."Damn Right Wing, prick!" or "Filthy Commie fucker!"...oh, we get that part of it in a big way. It is an easy sell to make people believe there are "powerful forces" aligned against them and buying into that also allows us a way out of accepting any sort of responsibility for the situation and playing any part in fixing it.

When I was a kid and I heard the word "politics" I thought the word was about people and finding a way to keep the system working in such a way as to benefit all people...the rich, the poor, the middle class, no matter your color or religion, or where you were from...I was naive enough I guess to think that politics basically meant problem solving for the benefit of all.

Now "politics" to a lot of people is like the word "motherfucker" or running into a crowded theater and yelling fire. It either disgusts them or pisses them off or scares them into a state of panic. Politics means beyond the comprehension of people who are not among the rich or the elected and I have to admit there seems to have been a lot of effort made to get the majority to see it that way...it seems intentional doesn't it?

I think these situations that we are all facing right now become much easier to understand if you drop the word "politics" and insert the word people.

I certainly don't think I have it all figured out but I have faith in the fact that we can figure stuff out and we only have each other to rely on.
