Surfed this up. From a Christian publication comes the best explanation I've ever read of the Ayn Rand influence on today's economic landscape.
Please read, even if you're from outside the US, because the entire planet is attempting to recover from the bomb she designed in the 40's; manufactured in the 60's, after teaching how to smash the greed atom on college campus after college campus; tested in the 80's, see Charles Keating S & L scandal and Michael Milliken; then, triggered by elegantly crafted but fatally flawed financial instruments, dropped by followers such as Alan Greenspan and Henry Paulson on Main Street, its clouds of financial pain: foreclosures, bankruptcies, and too-big-to-fail spreading across the globe.
That Atlas Shrugged clings near to the top of everyone's best seller list, and remains popular among high school students, is cause to worry for our future.
Until the mutation selected by her is stamped out, and selflessness replaces the selfishness she preached, the same actors will continue to play the same roles, and the audience will continue to applaud against its own self-interest.
