I also loved the documentary, EEE, and even non-fans should come away with a new respect
for the
commitment shown by the Darkness-era Springsteen. Given the obsessive nature of Bruce's
work
habits in those days, I was left wondering how his band put up with him. I mean, it's not
like they
knew of the success and riches that lay ahead. Why some or all of them didn't just pack it in
and
move on mystifies me. It may be that they saw the enormous potential that he had and just
wouldn't get off the E Street express.
I'm glad you mentioned how music is delivered today, versus our shared experiences
of holding a
record album. I think the album enhanced the entire experience. The lyrics were more easily
read,
photographs were more plentiful, and we were actually handling the product. The CD
experience,
for all of its improved sound (and I know that's debatable for some) and ease of storage,
just didn't
provide the same connection. And now, downloading new releases, as easily as it can be
done, and
notwithstanding how environmentally beneficial as it is, makes for a different experience.
