This is a really tough one. I've been fortunate to meet many interesting people from many different backgrounds.

But a few that immediate spring to mind include my husband's cousin, Australian novelist Tom Keneally. Not only for his inspiring breadth of knowledge and huge gifts with words both written and spoken but also for his sincere interest in, and goodwill to, almost everyone he meets. (His political rivals, excepted). He makes everyone else believe that they are just as interesting....

An MD who taught me Overdose Prevention. Doug specializes in HIV and AIDS and travels the world educating other health professionals and individuals about these scourges. But when he does OD Prevention with people suffering from the disease of addiction, he never talks down, he listens, he provides info like everyone is a guest at his dinner party. He always says he's not really a doctor and you'd believe him except for his extraordinary skills.

I have a colleague born in Liberia who has amazing stories about his childhood there, his life here. He is smart and funny and supportive and shares an appreciation and perspective of hardship and his life in the US that very few native Americans have. (Gee, maybe Obama IS not native born...lol).

And, yes, btw, David is an incredibly interesting person and makes my list, too!
