You know, I believe Carlos Casteneda had a huge impact on my mindset during my early years, I read that whole series, starting with "A Yaqui Way of Knowledge - The Teachings of Don Juan".
If you are enjoying them, you have to read the entire series though. Include "Journey to Ixtlan", "The Second Ring of Power" and most especially "The Eagle's Gift". My jury is still out on as to whether it was fiction or not, but Carlos was an intriguing writer no matter how you slice it. He made you think.
