I'll go even one more step and claim that many times even the writer doesn't know, consciously, why this or that line is perfect for the piece--instead just trusting that it belongs because he/she put it there. To ask the writer for the ultimate meaning in such a case wouldn't really be productive, at least not in the direction the questioners typically seem to want to go.Herring405
