Yes, I saw it. It was good for a few laughs but I was sort of hoping for some dark comedy and something a bit more...oh...Strangelovian I guess. The thing is it seems smart dark comedy (like Network or Strangelove) is sort of out these days and I can't for the life of me understand why. We seem to be living in a time where smart sharp satire and black comedy would be king.See the film In the Loop for something a bit better. Neither film is great and In the Loop goes for a lot of cheap laughs (over the top foul language, toilet humor, men in their underwear, masturbation jokes, etc...) but when it does go for the jugular it does so with a lot more purpose than Goats is ever able to work up and the end of Goats...well...sucked. Don't get me wrong, it was a fun night out at the movies but I guess given what could have been done with the topic I was a bit let down that they played it for a goofy buddy comedy. I mean Will Ferrell may as well have played the Clooney part. I don't say that as a knock on Ferrell or Clooney but we get enough of the "dumb" comedy films that Ferrell churns out and those have their place but with a story like the one they had and the talent involved...this is what they decide to make? Just a little odd...
