Hey EEE,No worries, as there are clearly some teachers who should not be in the profession. I know a few. In some cases, people should never have entered education in the first place. In other cases, along the way some clearly lost their passion, love for the kids, and willingness to alter their practices when research dictates that they should. Unfortunately, these individuals find themselves in their forties, with their financial future tied up in their pension plan, and are left with no good alternatives but to remain teaching. It's a pickle!
I'm in my sixth year of teaching after having spent a decade managing commercial real estate. And I thought that negotiating leases, handling maintenance problems, and generally being in adversarial positions with landlords and tenants was challenging! As to the quote, I always thought it was:"Those who can't "do" teach, and those who can't teach, teach gym."
And that's not fair to PE teachers as the one at our school is anything but the stereotypical boneheaded jock-type that many of us suffered under. I'll always remember Mr. Otto back in elementary school advising us to "run that cold right out of your system." Peter T.
