I'm reading "The Cold Six Thousand" right now--mob activity played against (and involved in) the Kennedy assassination. If a machine gun could write, it would be about what Ellroy is doing in this book. I don't think there has been a sentence longer than 9 words. I probably should have read "American Tabloid" first, but oh well...I've liked "The Black Dahlia" best of what I've read of his so far, but what a horrible movie adaptation. "Hollywood Nocturnes" is also a good set of short stories.
