Interesting that this thread has gone this direction. I for one hope the board doesn't die--that it's just got a case of the Facebook flu, with everyone too busy typing quick nothings to no one & linking videos of their cats while simultaneously playing those addictive yet mindless games (bejeweled blitz anyone?).

I suppose if my name were up on the mast-head, I'd feel the same--it does give an impression that the person named there "approves" of what gets said below. Old-timers here know better, but newbies (when they can take a break from Facebook) might not get it. And one does want to punch racists in the nose & let them bleed on the streets.

I'd bet you can name at least half a dozen people posting here whose missives you look forward to reading though. I know I can. Even a few with whom I'm in disagreement on just about everything.

The spirit of the place might be lost if bannables were facilitated, but if it means keeping the board around for a while longer, I'd be all for it. The alternative--closing up shop altogether--well I would feel that as a loss of something good.
