the toto hullabaloo reminded me of negativland...i first read about them in ROLLING STONE in the
late 80s. an article said that they'd been asked
by the FBI to cancel a tour because their song
"christianity is stupid" had been possibly linked to
a teenage axe-murder case. i eventually saw the album (escape from noise) in a store and bought it. it was indeed a hoot. i still sing "car bomb" to myself on occasion.anyway. the whole FBI/murder link story was just
something they made up when they couldn't afford a
tour. they issued a press release which most news
sources accepted and printed. these internet days,
spreading such a rumour is even easier...then on their next album, helter stupid, they turned set the whole tale to music, featuring many
news clips about their subliminal music.
