Maybe that’s the magic of fantasy coupled with the Western ego & a figurative way of building a bridge between cultures. What’s the harm in trying? I’d rather not be a part of a society that doesn’t (by whatever evolutionary means at it’s disposal) try to recognize connectivity.

nah...there’s no point-counter-point rhetoric that the dbis cannot produce @ any give-n-get, Ed, frankly I have been taken in by the whole film in whatever number of acts and that’s that. Near as much as Dances With Wolves which hit me in the gut out of the gate and so stays with me. & that last act of …Samurai is like a romanticism: Too anecdotal for a realist, okay, but maybe if things like this really did happen every now and then throughout world history, maybe then we’d all be experiencing a much better, if only a little better, 21st Century now…& so it goes
& near as much as Dances With Wolves is Braveheart ..& The Man in the Iron Mask ..& Gladiator ...& Fun with Dick & Jane ...and Big Trouble in Little China …and Superman …heh…off the top o my head
