Talking to a beautiful talented friend of ours…and it burns me to no end: She, who has always been inspired, hard working, diligent, and a very-very-boysenberry gifted singer-songwriter, even though most of her immediate family (and pretty-much every man [boy] who has ever incited a riot in her soul) has let her down to one heady extent or another (I hope she’s not going to be pissed that I’m posting this), is being cornered into bankruptcy …not for lack of trying desperately to stay solvent. & it’s bullshit, in point of fact, that a young woman with so much energy and willingness to meet requirements and set goals and see them through to the finish has to be faced with a (frugal, crucial, state-of-the-art-only-the-essentials) basic cost of living that actually fucking exceeds her professional teaching salary. This woman who put herself through college (earned two degrees) while working a day job and has the student loans to prove it; who uprooted herself and her music following to fill a teaching need in another state; who lives in a one room apartment without cable or landline; who does all this without pitching a fit about it in an educational system that has reduced gifted, imaginative, teachers to babysitters in reading, writing, arithmetic factories tooled by the heavy handed chickenshit of No Child Left Behind nonsense… …can’t even [at least] earn enough of a fair wage to support a single modest livelihood in America! Godamnitalltohellllllll!! This is what we’ve been reduced to?
