"There's a lot of politics that go into those lists, Reg."

I know you are right on this, Ross, and really I admit the lists I was pointing people to are certainly fluff, hell, I admitted that in the post but the key here is I would not compare the US to a third world country. My concern is we are supposed to be a "world leader" in so many ways and we are not. Granted, I am aware of what it is like in a lot of European nations but the fact remains...the US is not topping a lot of lists and we don't even make it into the top 20 in a lot of stuff. Ok, I know there are politics involved here but really that is part of the point. At one time in history we were the draw, people wanted to come here, but now what are we? I still think we have the best universities and hospitals in the world but for how long? If people perceive the quality of life is better elsewhere...and note I said perceive...what is to prevent people from following that lead? Point being, we seem to be losing our influence in the world at an alarming rate...or am I missing something?
