Have not seen the musical (play), would like to (even though I shy away from musical theatre because, well, honestly I haven’t really enjoyed the ones we’ve seen…other than Bye-Bye Birdie some years ago, and Assassins…a little [saw it at the height of the Bush reign which added relevance], oh…and an excellent production of Little Shop of Horrors).
BUT I’ve seen Milos Forman’s film so many times there’s no point in counting, ...and it had been a while until last night. One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Ragtime, Amadeus, The People Vs. Larry Flynt, Man on the Moon, etc., brilliant Milos Forman vision, and Hair iz no omission. Reviewed Hair via 14 YouTube clips with Maya… and the oomph is still relevant ~~ even though ”they/us/sellout/we, the people” really didn’t change the world, enlighten the spouse, save the soul for the seventh house; no, love did not abound (but in those rare spare moments, mama), it got passed over by the buck, so shat outa luck, the suck, the Age of Aquarius has odd skin blisters and birth defects on a foddered Somalian beach (not so) near you and (very near) our forefathers’ economical contaminants. …Oh torch, woe torch, NO torch appears to be burning, no mind’s true liberation anymore in our songs…

Back in the hep days of the mid to late 80’s we’d get together for entire weekends with the same close-knit group. Think and converse, drink ourselves to sum excess, partake in various acts of creative whatsoever, spin stacks of CDs into the wee hours … shoot pool or play ping-pong or Risk or dice or makin’ bacon or repair or build something or throw down in the mud n rain in the backyard after midnight until somebody was bleeding and everyone had their fill of roughhousing. Then rinse & repeat, or divide into one comfort zone reality or another until breakfast, all so unequivocally, & that was that even though it seemed like something else. It felt like something more significant was going down between us.
& One other mainstay of those days occurred when some of the girls (always the same ones actually) eventually lit candles and dawned their Stevie Nicks apparel and put Hair on the best theatre sounding TV set-up of the day and we sat around the pit group and on the floor and got ‘that way’ and I think it was mainly the girls that dug it…but I dug the mood it seemed to get them in…and so it got me in that mood as well. …My point is, I guess I was a sucker for Hair too, for a while, enough so to have one version or another on vinyl. There were other bastion films of the time too, you know them, but none lent so perfectly well to getting laid (or at least some cuddle-time) directly…
(Some o the music …the bass lines …just great …from Age of Aquarius …to...)

Anybody else see the similarity between Hair and Across the Universe?
