Sometimes you have to hold your nose and bail out the irresponsible. I'm sure that's anathema to people of your ilk, Pat, but even David Brooks gets it:

On the surface Peter that sounds compassionate. Unfortunately it sets a very bad precedent for more bad behavior. Because I oppose it makes me sound like an ruthless ogre but at some point you have to draw the line. The problem with people of your ilk Peter, is that there is no line. It only makes us a country of weak and feeble dependents wondering where the next handout is coming from. That's not theory it is a fact of human nature.
