Well after two full spins of Bruce's latest disc: "Working On A Dream" the first thing that comes to mind is Jackson Browne during the early 80's. You know those crappy discs, "Hold Out" and "Lawyers In Love".
I wish Bruce would just record solo discs with him and his guitar and maybe a few other subtle players. It's the closing number, The Last Carnival" and 'The Wrestler" stripped down, powerful tales that steal the show for me. I also believe that the former drops many references to notion that possibly Bruce was a huge fan of Patty Griffin's last record... and on that note, if you don't own Patty's disc "Children Running Through", buy it, instead of "Working On A Dream" or better yet, see "The Wrestler"! Much cheaper and far more rewarding.
