What's missing is any question of how Obama's view of the presidency differs (philosophically) from that of his opponent or his predecessor.Shall we have an imperial president? Yes, it seems we shall.In my opinion it was the particular genius of our founding fathers that they were able to predict the greatest threat to the liberty of a free society--never from without, always from within, and quite likely from persons who believe themselves to be acting in the interest of their fellow men. This was the underlying reason for the system of checks and balances.That system is broken, and I do not see anyone on the ballot who is likely to restore it.For that reason, I find little to nudge me toward even the very audacity of hope.Still, it was a good article, and I'm glad you posted it.Herring405
