I can't speak for Cass but I don't think she was citing that as a way to slight Palin but more to highlight the fact that Palin really is so much bigger than McCain at this point. In fact John has sort of become the invisible man even to his own campaign. Word is he is in a super nasty mood these days and although they are not letting on why I think I could make a reasonable guess.

I am sort of shocked by what is happening among the Republicans and as they claim folks should not focus on Palin they are at the same time pushing to keep the focus on her. I know its all strategy but good god, McCain is the guy running for president on their ticket and it does feel like they just want him out of the way. I really believe if they could switch to Palin as president and McCain as VP they would. His own campaign is treating him as a nuisance which you gotta admit is pretty odd and is part of why he's angry.
