"Now my mom says that there may be 5 kittens on one of the farms and wants me to take them and I will. But I wonder why people don't just pay up the 5 bucks that the local humane society charges to get their cats fixed?"

A lot of people out in the country want a lot of cats running in their barn, for the obvious reason of pest control. After a few generations, catching the cats to take them in for "fixing" is . . . a LOT of trouble, so I think many just don't want to go through it.

I have just taken in two barn cats to be garage cats here at Casa Herring. They are NUTS! Always finding the most hilarious places to sleep (and not-so-hilarious places to defecate). I grew up in a place where we kept at least a dozen cats in the barn at all times, so I have missed having cats.

Then again, I did not miss that cat urine smell. Yuck. These guys better catch their weight in mice! :)

(BTW--they'll be fixed the moment they're old enough.)
