I can't afford it and I hate the ramifications of paying $7 or $10 a gallon for gas, but there is a good side to it - it might force the industry to provide alternative means..

Remember the flux of compacts in the 70's? (first car I drove was a Folkswagon Rabbit BTW - motor mounts went out) I've seen these around a lot lately - both my son and I have been surprised at how many of these we've seen around here...He likes simulators of all types...He 'drove' one of them around...

In france they were called ELF's...

I was really shocked to see one with local plates - I would not want to be in an accident with one of them...

I think ending our dependence on oil is necessary in the short term - I know who I sound like - but I'd like to think this will actually occur...

As an old friend of mine put it so many years ago (he was a Perot supporter)

'Go back to your tents - we don't need you anymore'

FWIW

China seems to be actively pursuing other alternatives as well... d http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/bizchina/2007-04/24/content_858227.htm

we certainly seem to fund them...China, that is...

Perot was in favor of supply side economics - I always have been too..

BP Shell and other firms keep selling 'we're pursuing alternatives' - but they haven't delivered yet...maybe that's the nature of energy exploration...

I don't do either...

(sell and explore - or if you'd rather explore and sell)

and so I'm ill equipped to comment on them knowledgably...

that might make me stoopid...
