"What would happen to the development if it weren't developed further?"

Well, there's a certain sewage treatment plant that would suddenly have to be funded by the five homeowners out here, as opposed to the dozens that were planned for. And erosion is a bit of a problem, exposing gas lines and water mains here & there, and which currently no one is managing but the developer (since the lots that border those erosion areas have not been bought yet).

There is a Homeowner's Association whose dues are supposed to take care of such things, but if the development gets into arrears, the measly funds in that Association account will not last long. If no development ensues in the next couple of years, I'd likely have to sell at a huge loss (and probably at a time when no one is buying).

But hey, the herons are nice, and the deer, and the smell of new-mown cattle from just beyond the rise. You know, the sun is but a morning star, and all that. Trala.
