I went completely insane yesterday and bought way more CDs than I should have--

Mudcrutch - Sounds like I would have expected Petty/Tench/Campbell and Bernie Leadon's brother to sound in the early 70's. I get a vibe that comes from Gram Parsons, the Burritos, CSN/Y, and of course, The Heartbreakers. It's got a real loose feel, isn't overproduced, and sounds like a bunch of great musicmakers having a good time, even if the songs aren't as strong as Petty's better stuff.

Winwood - Other than "Dirty City", which has a Blind Faith/Traffic feel to it, the rest of it seems kind of pedestrian, not too different from the last several Winwood releases.

Elvis Costello - Momufuku - This comes after he said he'd never make a rock album again, then that he wasn't going to release it on CD. There's no theme on this one like there was on The Delivery Man or when I was cruel, but it's loose, fun, and mixes in a lot of the best of what EC does without sounding forced. I'd love to see him doing some of this stuff live.

Stones - Shine A Light - Another Stones live album, but they sound like they're having a good time. I haven't seen the film yet, plan to before it leaves the IMAX theatre. A co-worker says it's one of the best concert films he's ever seen.

Jeff Healey Band - Mess of Blues - Very tasty. I miss this guy a lot now.

John5 - Songs for Sanity - forget that this was Marilyn Manson's guitar player, and this is one of the greatest guitar instrumental albums I've heard. His taste is all over the place and he does bluegrass really well. There's a song called "Behind the Nut Love" where he gets a pretty good pedal steel sound out of a 6-string.

I also picked up a couple for my wife for Mother's day, along with a Lindsey Buckingham live CD/DVD that I haven't had the time to listen to yet (anyone heard from Kyle lately, BTW?), and my intention for going in the store was to find the new one from T-Bone Burnette, but it doesn't come out until next week.
