Well, I certainly understand what you are saying, David, and I think aspects of her current demeanor are part of the current Clinton pitch. The thing is I think she is such a hack politician (or lightweight as ol' Tricky Dick might have said) that it's a disservice to Nixon to compare her to him in any way. Quite frankly she's a joke and a very bad joke at that. Sure, she has mastered some of Nixon's wounded king stuff but the thing is he really was the king at that point and a living breathing American tragedy. She's just play acting and serving tea in her doll house. Her act is all based on the fact that she was under the impression they gave her the presidency back in January of 2007. She was the assumed heir to the throne of King George. Nixon was not acting, he didn't have to, it was real. There's a lot going on in the Democratic party that is not kosher. First off, when it's down to two candidates and one of them very much appears to be mathematically eliminated there would generally be many phone calls being made to that candidate to let them know they should step aside and allow the party to unite behind the candidate with the lead. This is not happening and the reason is because the candidate that needs to step aside is named Clinton. The Clintons are working to change that math and have been pushing the idea that not only should super delegates swing to their side but that pledged delegates are not required to cast their vote for the candidate that won in their respective state. Technically they are correct but this would be a major breach of the public trust and faith (what little there may be) in our system. Just the fact that the Clintons are floating this shows how little regard they have for democracy and the American public. Their idea, and Hillary stated part of this again yesterday, is to have a scenario where neither candidate can reach the magic number of delegates and this whole thing must be decided with a brawl at the convention. Also the Clintons (and make no mistake this race has now been defined as "The Clintons" vs. "The Black Guy") feel they have the "better argument" for being president and many in the party (and rumors say this includes Howard "The Scream" Dean who may be working behind the scenes to help the Clintons with their delegate math) agree and see Obama as "too damaged" to win in the general election now. The fact is the DNC has some major input into who their candidate may be and the Clintons strategy has been to show no matter what the popular vote says they are the better representatives of the party. They can "win the big states" and they have the "right support" behind them. Rumor is they are now winning this argument big behind the scenes and they have delegates considering a switch because "it is what is best for the party and this election is too important to lose."Let's face it everything that the Clintons have out there against Obama is now fair game for the Republicans to use in the general election and they don't even have to say it themselves...they will just play tapes of the Clintons saying it and mcCain stays squeeky clean. Not quite Nixon's tapes but still ugly.
