Oh, ye wana compare scars do ya?  How about an all-day boating outing on Lake Erie with four adults and two kids (me one of them, I’d say I was about 10, and their older, far more aloof, daughter, the other).  Their music of choice?  Charlie Rich, Behind Closed Doors, on an 8-track loop, while the adults got a little looped on choppy water, and tried to teach me how not to ski (drown ~ good thing I loved the water cuz I wasn’t on the skis much).  Then a storm came in, Lake Erie affect waves well up over the boat, something electrical gets too wet and the boat engine stalls.  Now were out in this washing machine getting tossed around in Hell & high water, and somehow the 8-TRACK STILL PLAYS, so …did you happen to see the most beautiful girl in the world, if you did was she crying…crying.…is poking ragged holes in my psyche, waves are above my head, the sky & my thoughts are black.  Even after the other boat arrives to tie us on and tow us in, Charlie Rich is still looping around and around and……………………   I turned down every boating outing for years after that ……..and it wasn’t for fear of the storm conditions ~~ that was the best part, really.  Never trust adults’ intentions when you are going to be trapped (without escape) with them for a whole day.  It’s why you won’t likely ever get me on a cruise.  Like a jail sentence.   I would sail, though, with reasonably like-minded peers.  That remains [still] an untried experience.  Prolly would have to hurl over the side a couple times……………       http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgMm-lF2eBE

P.S.  Cool story, E.  People are always throwing stuff away in this disposable society of ours.  & back then before solid state, when component electronics put everything right out there in front of you, yep, fun to goof around with the gadgets back then.  A little more difficult now with pcboards and chips and the like ~~ blackboxing is all the rage anymore.  Still worth tearing into a cabinet or two, ya never know what you’re gona find.  I have a story about a Blaupunkt car stereo in a 70 Thunderbird I’d share [FWIW] if you have another to match it.
