Very cool, Gene. It's a great song and I'm glad you liked Dylan singing it because I know you're not that crazy about him as a singer. I like the way he sings it and I like Dylan as a singer and I love the Rolling Thunder period (The Bootleg Series, Bob Dylan Live 1975 is a must own and Dylan at his absolute best...he seems to sing every word as if his life depended on it...fucking amazing). I like when he works this sort of material, big fan of his soundtrack for Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (one of my favorite films) and stuff like Romance in Durango...but that's way off track here...

What I'd like to ask is how you like to play the song when you play it. What chord progression do you use? Mostly I know it the way Baez is playing it with the capo at the fifth fret...but I like the way Dylan plays it and in this case the two guitars together is very cool.

I can't say I know the Byrds version but I know with Guthrie tunes people play them all differnt ways and the lyrics can vary and I think that's how Woody would have liked it but how do you play the song...in the event we ever play it together...
