Steve Van Zandt (Silvio on 'The Sopranos' to you younger DBIS'ers) put out a great album in 1984
called 'Voice of America'. Most of it was about American policy in Central America under the Reagan
administration. Like 'Lives in the Balance' the names have changed, the countries are different now,
but the beat of American adventurism continues on & on...Here's the lyrics to the title track: (BTW, the album also contains Van Zandt's 'I Am a Patriot', a song
Jackson has been doing for years. He and Bonnie Raitt just played it at an Edwards rally a few weeks
ago. Voice of America
Steven Van Zandt (Blue Midnight Music, 1983) Can you hear me, wake up
where's the voice of AmericaSomebody help me, we gotta stop a crime
I been betrayed by my own kind
I been quiet, too quiet
while across the borderline
We dieCan you hear me, wake up
where's the voice of AmericaI know that we knew right from wrong once upon a time
Everything we stood for has been compromised
I been quiet, too quiet
while across our borderline
my people lieCan you hear me, wake up
where's the voice of AmericaYou're quiet, too quiet, are you still alive
InsideCan you hear me, wake up
we're the voice of America
we're the voice of America
we're the voice of America
we're the voice of America
