Good stuff, Reg. I found the whole story fascinating. I would guess that these indigenous laws would not pass constitutional muster in Mexico should someone actually bring the case to trial. But it also calls into the question the near-deification of the indigenous communities there by the Mexico City left-intelligensia and supporters of groups like the Zapatistas. Many of them, are (I suspect) against the blatant sexism of the mountain community. What happens with the progressives find themselves aligned against the government in a decidedly non-progressive cause? Who is "progressive" and what does that really mean?
