Years ago when the rap group 2 Live Crew was underfire Springsteen allowed them to cover
"Born in the USA." So he is willing to stick his neck out. ("41 Shots" also shows this). He has not offered the reason why he did not immediately jump to their defense, but what I find really alarming is that I can't recall any other musicians publically defending the Dixie Chicks. I would have thought there would have been many, many other artists doing such, when instead it has been other ones, especially country acts, who have jumped on them with rancid fervor. EEE
