more like: Daniel Day Lewis is a freaking tour de force...

Just got back from the flick today. Great character study in the title character. The film is about the Daniel Plainview (lead character played brilliantly by Daniel Day Lewis- can we just hand him every major acting award ? A brilliant performance to an already brilliant career) so it was easy to dismiss the weaker supporting roles including Paul Dano's very average performance. Easy to dismiss the misguided soundtrack by Jonny Greenwood. The rhythmic tracks in particular did not help the film and distracted from the film's natural flow and nearly ruined some key scenes in which it was used. A similar ploy of rhythm was used to great effect in the recent "Atonement" score, which I saw last week. I know it’s like comparing apples to oranges, but I can only wonder if the score would have even been used if it wasn’t written by the likes of Mr. Greenwood ? But my biggest disappointment was in the final scene. So unlike Mr. Spielberg, who seems to “sappy up” every film’s ending he directs. Mr. Anderson goes in the opposite direction. I mean this film was so close to being an American Film classic and he goes a fecking cool gangsta indie on us?
