I dunno, man. They seemed pretty happy with such a flawed gift. And I'm not sure that ethanol is readily available in this particular neighborhood. And 250 dollars seems pretty cheap for a tractor. Also, tractors don't grow their own food. And you have to remember about China that it wasn't long ago that the final battle in the 20-odd year Chinese Civil War was fought by millions of people who were so impoverished and starving that they fought each other naked with bayonets. No money for clothes or bullets, you see. They also, while fighting each other, had to fight the Japanese, who, while a smaller country, were able to bomb, strafe, and massacre relatively unarmed peasants by the valley- full, until they got distracted by the US, and the oil embargo that drove them to attack Pearl Harbor.

Think how well we'd be doing under those circumstances, a brutal, impoverishing, decades-long Civil War, a devastating invasion by a ruthless power...
