Most of em are just a different division of the 'we're the government and you're not ' club.

Btw, arguably, this may be a democracy today(& I'd argue that it is only one in the sales pitch or when the outcome doesn't matter to the powers that be-which ain't you and me, we're not the Stakeholders of this nation(& that's a fact Jack)); but just for the record, this nation was founded as a Republic and the founders, by & large, abhorred democracy as a governmental model.

Too, I would suggest two other considerations: look around the world at all the nations that are referred to as democracies and how they match up with our supposed ideals of human liberty yadi yadi yada, and, if we have such a superior form of government(which I believe a Constitutional Republic is, to the alternatives we keeping setting up) why does the US always follow the British model and establish Parliaments rather than hand out copies of the "greatest governmental document of human history" the US Constitution?

Thinking really is unsettling, it just leads to more questions that are better left unexplored(if you want to remain safely PC).
