South African reggae star Lucky Dube was shot and killed in a botched hijacking attempt last night. He was dropping his son off at a friend's house, when hijackers tried to steal his Chrysler 300C...I was fortunate enough to have met him through a mutual friend who played drums on several of his albums, and, not to be cliched, but a nicer, friendlier, warmer, more harmless man you could not hope to meet....To the best of my knowledge, he is the only South African ever to have been signed to Motown records in the USA.He was a great man, a fantastic musician, a superb father, and he will be sorely missed.RIP Lucky. Hamba Gahle.
