Ralph Peters has been my friend for decades. He enjoys film, art, music, good chow, red wine, hiking and appreciates a bon mot. (This sounds like a singles ad but his wife Kathrine might disapprove). He's had 25+ years in the military(is an expert on Russia, the SA drug trade, etc) but is now retired; oh, and also written a great series of Civil War novels under the pseudonym Owen Parry. But he and I disagree strongly on Iraq although I must admit he's been there for a total of about 5-6 months since the war began and I just haven't made the trip...however, he is scathing in the article below about both Blackwater and the State Dept. An interesting insider's view:
