No Tom, not classic actors like that.  This is a new film, featuring the new kid on the block, Colin Farrell (from Ireland), who I think has already overstayed his welcome. He plays a man "trapped" in a phonebooth by a crank-calling sniper (Keifer Sutherland).  The recurring Forrest Whitaker plays a detective trying to "talk the suspect down", in a very tiresome, and repeated American theme of sniper, in a crowded, hysterical city (this time NYC), replete with prying TV crews and shrieking citizens.

Colin's fake NY accent wears very thin, almost immediately, and his Irish lilt (which they should have left alone) surfaces about as quickly as head on a pint of Guinness.  His acting is about the very best of the high school drama club at it's peak, and the dialogue was probably written by the High School Drama coach (not to say that High School drama is mediocre..there are probably many schools across the world that could have done a better job).

The movie is supposed to have so much "suspense", that the viewer is "on the edge" of his or her seat.  I thought much of it was so ludicrous that I thought it was supposed to be a comedy.   I'm sure the actors must have giggled themselves sick in the trailer after each day's shooting.

All THAT being said, there is one thing that made the whole mess worthwhile, at least for me.  I really dug the soundtrack and film score, and that's what motivated me to post.   Would LOVE to see DB's take on this aspect, if he has seen the film.  In the intro, in particular, there's this spacy intro that segues into a hip-hop groove, with visuals of sidewalk dancers in NYC that really rocked me.  Once the actual "movie" got underway, it was downhill from there (acting wise), but I still stayed focused on the sound; it was pretty continuous throughout, and, I thought very interesting.

You might still want to Czech it out.
