I wonder if Mitt really believes Mormon dogma. Perhaps, like many rational adults who have had a chance to read history and understand human nature and behavior, you secretly question the belief system which you were brought up in, but you find yourself largely surrounded by friends and family members of the same faith, and you simply go along to get along. I can't imagine he believes in the Moroni /golden tablets, Jesus visiting North America to commune with the natives nonsense,  but it's a rare Mormom,  fundamentalist Christian,  Muslim, etc. who'll risk becoming a social outcast, or as Reg said, risk death. Similarly, if one is born to die-hard atheists, it would be difficult to proclaim one's conversion to religion. My father was an exception to this. Until his early 40's, he was a hard core, conservative Roman Catholic. Having evolved into a far-left leaning, secular humanist, his Washington DC friends would not recognize the opinions, and lack of beliefs, that he now holds. He often tells me how how embarassed he is that he did not question things earlier. I've tried to instill this need to question authority in my daugher, and I don't spare myself from her questioning.
