I prefer Sammy, but that's a very much personal preference.  Part of it is looking at the overall body of work.  I thought Sammy's stuff with VH was overall better written and less over the top, but was also overproduced.  His solo stuff, with some exceptions, beats the living tar out of DLR's solo stuff--excluding DLR's solo EP, which was great fun and channelled the essence of Dave without being as full of crap as he was to get later.

You're right, "I Can't Drive 55" is crap and I really don't need to hear "There's Only One Way to Rock" again, but then you've got the Montrose stuff, HSAS, and his more recent stuff with the Wabo's.  Plus his late summer/fall tour is going to have Mikey on bass, as well as being his opening act(if Mike's web site is to be believed).

DLR has always come across as a clown to me.  I think for a while EVH & co were able to rein him in a bit, but the 1984 tour videos I've seen look like a total circus.  He's a shameless self-promoter and has proven over the last 10 years or so that he knows his career is dead without having EVH behind him.  Just look at the pickin-n-grinnin thing he did for the bluegrass tribute.

My ticket dollar, were it to be spent, would be to see Sammy and Mike rather than DLR, EVH, and a 16 year old bass player.
