I started playing tennis in the mid to late 70's(incessantly) and remember just  a year or so previous to that no one seemed to play on the courts (they were never crowded). Then suddenly you could never find an empty court. There was a craze of sorts. Why was that? I think because you had the bad boys like Jimmy Connors and John McEnroe as well as Illie Nastasie (on his way out). Then you had the class of Bjorn Borg. Hell I thought McEnroe was bad for the game but as history shows it was just the reverse. Next came Ivan Lendl and Boris Becker who did little or nothing to make the sport interesting followed by the boring Pete Sampras, although I will agree I loved watching his matches with Andre Agassi. Now we have Roger Federer who seems to kick everones ass with one hand tied behind his back. This guy Nadal seems to have his number and I'm thinking this might be the final year for Federer at Wimbleton(maybe not). Anyway Tennis needs some spice because those tennis courts are all empty just like they were 30 years ago.

PS: Sorry to hear Bud Collins was ousted from NBC sports. Another generation gone
