Icon Another story about mob violence, but with a little humor...

Years ago I had a college class with a prison guard. He told me he was working at this brand new state of the art prison where a main office was sort of in the middle of all the inmates. This office was enclosed with steel rod enforced concrete blocks and shatterproof glass.

Since the office was surrounded by the inmates, I asked him what would they do if they ever had to get out of the office and couldn't go through the inmates. He told me there was a ladder that led up and out of the office where they could escape.

Anyway, as he told it, one day a riot started and the inmates started breaking and throwing stuff. He told me one of them picked up a chair and threw it at the glass and nary a scratch. Then, somehow one of the inmates got hold of a sledge hammer. For a bit they were alarmed, but after the inmate smacked the glass with hardly any damage, the guards inside of the office started flipping off the inmates, cursing and teasing them.

The inmate with the sledge hammer went into a frenzy and started pounding the glass, hardly damaging it all. Then, in his wild swinging, the inmate hit one of the concrete blocks.

My classmate told me the guards in the office started to shit their pants when they saw the head of the sledge hammer come through the concrete block and poke into the office. Not long after this they shimmied their asses up the ladder and out of the office.

It seems that the builders skimped on security a bit and didn't place the steel bars the right amount of distance like they were supposed to.
