The White Album was my first big foray in the Beatles, as one of my older brothers had a cassette of it that I used to "borrow" from time to time sometime around 1974 or so (I would have been 8 I guess). Piggies, Bungalow Bill, and Blackbird really got into my head--interestingly, all from tape 1 as well. I wonder if we had the same problme.

Sgt. Pepper's was next, but it was when I turned on Rubber Soul and Revolver with the headphones on....even 15 years after the fact, it felt like there was a whole new era of discovery going on. Then getting older and comparing other bands outputs from the same era--Pet Sounds and Smile from the Beach Boys in particular, as well as some Stones records--and the sense of competition between these bands really lit up.
