jaco doing Slang...a regular thing he did while touring with Weather Report. this tune was my intro to
Jaco. I went to see Weather Report live at the Mosque in Cleveland Ohio, in 1979 (their last tour, and
it was recorded live for their 2 LP Live album...forget the title). I really didn't know much about the
group except for Zawinul and Wayne Shorter, and just went to the gig. Then there was this long-
haired guy on bass who seemed awesome, dressed in long bell bottom type pants and doing this
Kabuki thing....he had funny looking eyes and I thought at first he was Oriental. He was not wearing
shoes...only socks and sliding around on stage. He did this tune ( a more extended version of it...but
here I can recognize some of the same moves and dancing), and it blew my mind. That was it for
me....Jaco, Jaco, Jaco...I went nuts, bought his solo albums, and became the proverbial fan-atic...If you hear my bass chops you'll pick up the influence immediately (heh heh....)....
