I was put in mind of this while listening to NPR this morning. The story was with some idiot mouthpiece from the pro fossil fuels industry who said that one good thing was that people usually get enough warning to get into their "vans or Priuses" to evacuate from hurricanes and then have the insurance and money to build. Hmm, New Orleans anyone?
BUT, I had dinner recently with a friend who's the star of one of this crime investigation tv shows and he talks with the FBI often. The FBI told him that if (when) there is ever again a natural or man-made disaster in NYC, the only way out will be by one of the rivers and he advised me friend to buy an inflatable boat and keep it in his apartment. He did. Now, we all know there is probably only a small real possibility of escape/survival but sometimes even a rubber boat gives some peace of mind.
It's raining Biblically here today and the 50mph winds are yet to come.
